Within the animal world, there are many species that we can adopt as pets. But the truth is that most people, whether for culture, comfort or any other reason, choose cats and dogs as their favorite pets.

Of course, we are not judging those who do. Rather, we want to point out that it is a common denominator. Now these eternal companions of man possess many races. So there is a lot of variety to choose from.

For example, in the case of the dog, there are large and woolly, large and with little hair, elongated, thin, with an athletic build, unicolor, of various colors like a work of abstract art, females, males, meek, aggressive, small and even tiny.

You can choose according not only to your tastes but also to your personality. If you do so, you can enjoy an unconditional friend for many years. In fact, some dogs have the joy of being considered part of the family. So they are allowed to live inside the house and live with all the members of the family.

Generally, those who enjoy this benefit are small breed dogs. Not only that, they are also taken for walks everywhere, as if it were an accessory of the outfit that is worn.

A typical example of this is Chihuahua dogs. They are so tiny and light that their owners take them to their social gatherings, the gym and anywhere else they are allowed to enter.

They are even such curious little animals that they have had their own film or have had an important role in others. Would you like to have a Chihuahua as a pet? What do you need to know about this breed? What are their characteristics? We will talk about it in this article.

Instructions for Everything you need to know and features

Apparently the Chihuahua comes from Mexico, having as ancestors the Chichi, a breed of dog that was bred by indigenous Mexicans many years ago.

The Chihuahua is the type of dog that you either come to love madly or just don’t like one bit. But the truth is that it is almost inevitable not to smile, at least a little, when we meet one of these dogs on the street.

Among its main characteristics we find its particular size. They are small but stocky and their legs are very thin but strong. They measure between 15 and 22 centimeters, depending on whether they are male or female.

They weigh between 1.5 and 3 kilograms, also if it is female or male. His head is usually disproportionate to the size of his body. It tends to be larger than this, which gives it a noticeably asymmetrical look.

As for its color, it does not have a specific one. You can find it in white, black, gold, chocolate or mahogany brown.

They can live 13 to 20 years if given proper care. So, if you choose the Chihuahua as a pet, you will have a good friend for many years.

In relation to their character or personality, there are those who may think that they are dogs that have a bad character. However, the truth is that this is just a rumor or bad reputation. The Chihuahua is a very affectionate and sociable dog when he is educated to do so from a very young age.

It is fun and cheerful and becomes very attached to its owner. It can be an excellent playmate if there are children in the house. He is also very brave. No stranger will approach the house without the Chihuahua’s barking giving it away.

Like any person, the character of the Chihuahua will be conditioned by the family and the environment in which it develops. On the other hand, he is considered a very tenacious but always gets what he wants.

He is generally very observant and very selective. What he likes he will like all his life, but the opposite is also true, if there is something he doesn’t like, be it food, person or something else, he will simply push it away.

Like other dog breeds, Chihuahuas enjoy being in the company of other dogs of the same breed, which goes a long way in building their character.

Now, given that it is such a small and apparently fragile animal, will it have any kind of special care? Yes actually. Therefore, in the next subtitle we will be dealing with what you need to know about this breed: The Chihuahuas.

What do you need for everything you need to know and features?

There are many myths related to the health of Chihuahuas. It is said that they have a very delicate stomach, among other things, but the truth is that they are just that, myths.

A Chihuahua does not need more care than that given to a normal dog. However, in view of their small size, special attention must be paid to those that are puppies. If an adult dog is already small, now imagine a puppy about two months old.

In spite of this, the Chihuahua is a robust and healthy dog; it seldom presents any symptoms that are out of the ordinary.

It does not need to be given long walks nor is it recommended to exercise as it could cause a heart attack. To keep it healthy and clean, all you have to do is give it the vaccines that your veterinarian indicates, as well as brush it daily.

Since he sometimes suffers from toothaches, the recommendation is that you buy him a tether that is adapted to the size of his jaw so that he does not force it too much.

As for the issue of food, you should not give more food than it can digest. If we overdo it, we can cause a serious digestive problem. The ration that we must give daily may seem very little. However, it is enough since its small size must be taken into consideration.

Keep in mind that the Chihuahua is a dog that tends to be obese. Hence the importance of knowing well the type of diet you should have to avoid future diseases.

Despite being a very healthy and long-lived dog, throughout his life he could suffer from any of these diseases:

  • Epilepsy.
  • Disc herniation.
  • Cleft palate.
  • Dislocation.
  • Hydrocephalus.
  • Heart problems.
  • Hemophilia.
  • Glaucoma, among other diseases.

However, so that you can prevent some of these diseases, the recommendation is to take it to the veterinarian frequently, who is the one who best knows your needs as a pet.

It’s also important to check his eyes frequently to prevent him from developing eye infections.

Since it is small in size and some have little hair, they suffer from cold. We recommend that, in winter, you buy him clothes that adapt to his size so that he is warm.

Tips for Everything you need to know and features

If you want to have a well-behaved pet, you must bear in mind that, in the case of the Chihuahua, its training must begin when it is still very small.

If you take this aspect into account, you will avoid having an antisocial, improper or bad-tempered dog in the future. It is important that they learn to relate and live with human beings and other animals.

By paying attention to this particular, you will be able to enjoy its company in open places such as the beach or the mountains and leave it with the children without fear of harming them in any way. Simply put, you’ll save yourself a lot of headaches.

On the other hand, it is also important that you are the one who decides what time you should eat, sleep, walk or perform some other type of similar activity. If you give him free rein, he will take advantage of the situation as he likes independence and tends to be capricious.

Set well-established limits and reward him only when he really deserves it, otherwise he will try to receive rewards and attention from you all the time.

You must be careful and spoil him or spoil him excessively; otherwise he will become capricious and become a problem for you and the rest of the members of your family.

If you decide to buy a Chihuahua, the main thing is that you fall in love with it. In addition, you must be sure that he received a good socialization process with other dogs and with people. How to know that? You will notice it with the naked eye.

If he has not had a good socialization process, he will be a shy and very skittish dog. Some might think that if he is calm, that means he is a ben dog. Perhaps that is an indication that a bad job has been done with it.

Chihuahuas should be playful, friendly, active and restless dogs, the reason is because they never stop being babies. It is something that you should always remember and keep in mind.

If you take into account the information that we have shared with you about its characteristics, tastes, care, education and socialization, you will be able to enjoy the pleasant company of the Chihuahua for a long time.

He will know how to reward the love and care you give him and will be a faithful dog for the rest of his life. It is worth having a dog with these qualities in our home and family.
